My Style Defined: A Classic Outfit for Fall

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010
Untitled

Since you all responded so enthusiastically to this new series (yay!) I thought I’d pull together an outfit incorporating some of my favorite fall classics. J.Crew’s cashmere crewneck tee is without a doubt my staple fall sweater. I’d throw one over a striped tee and pair it with some leopard flats for a more updated look. A Barbour barn jacket is my go-to light weight jacket for fall. Mine has lasted me for years! I’ll definitely be wearing a variation of this outfit once the cooler weather (finally) hits D.C.

My Style Defined

Monday, August 30th, 2010
Maybe it’s a quarter-life crisis, but lately I’ve been feeling a bit lost. For the next week I thought it’d be fun to get back to the basics of what defines my style. At least I’ll have one area of my life mapped out, right? Growing up in New England and spending my high school years at boarding school have definitely influenced my style. I’m drawn to classic pieces that will stand the test of time. This gold monogrammed Danielle Stevens necklace definitely fits the bill. I have a similar one and wear it all the time. It’s a little more modern than your classic string of pearls but I guarentee you’ll be wearing it for years to come!

Orange Opulence

When I saw these photos from Kevin Sharkey’s housewarming I think my jaw audibly hit the floor. A shower full of Hermes boxes, are you kidding me?! The man has set the bar for over-the-top extravagance high. Can you imagine all the pretty things that came wrapped in those boxes? I’d be happy as a clam with just one! Enjoy that glass of Veuve Mr. Sharkey because I think you’ve made us all sufficiently jealous!

Pretty In Pink

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Please excuse my sporadic posting/comments this week. I have a work conference which unfortunately means 12 hour days and little time to blog. In lieu of a proper post I leave you with this gorgeous photo from photographer Amanda Pratt. Wouldn’t it be great to lounge around in pink tights listening to records all day? I’d happily trade!

Weekend Project: Greek Key Trimmed Curtains

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

Last week I gave you all a sneak peek at one of the projects I’ve had in the works. Several of you guessed exactly what I was up to right away. I should have known I wouldn’t be able to pull a fast one on my design savvy readers! With just a hot glue gun, an iron, and a measly half hour of effort, I have a custom pair of curtains. You’d never guess they were ikea, right?
P.S I bought 10 yds of trim from this ebay seller and had plenty left over!

All That Glitters…

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

This past weekend I was shopping at Sassanova and came across these gorgeous druzy rings from Marcia Moran. I’m completely obsessed with the silver–so much sparkle! The gems are called druzy, which refers to the glittering crystals that form on the inside of geodes. I definitely think I need to add one to my cocktail ring collection asap! What do you think?

I just had to re-post these gorgeous photos of Mara and her handsome boyfriend Matthew from M Loves M. The photos are from a shoot they did with Jose Villa (jealous!!) You can find more at Mara’s blog and at Once Wed. Be sure to watch the video, it’s precious!
P.S Now I’m completely obsessed with finding the perfect riding boots for fall. Any suggestions?

Lesley Evers SALE

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010
For everyone that loved the Lesley Evers Paige dress I reviewed here, you can now score one of your own for 40% off! Lesley Evers is having a huge sale so shop till you drop! I’m thinking the Audrey dress in Brown Zebra will be a great transition piece to fall.
P.S I’ve seen a sneak peek of their new fall line and it’s gorgeous! Get ready, because you’re going to love it!

Project Sneak Peek

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

Decorating is a never ending project isn’t it? It seems that there’s always another project to be crosses off the list. I thought I’d give you a sneak peek at something I have in the works. Here’s a hint: it involves ten yards of this trim. Any guesses?
Can’t wait to share when it’s finished!

This Lil’ Piggy Stayed Home

Monday, August 16th, 2010

I’m completely obsessed with this adorable Harry Allen piggy bank Jessica from The Love List recently featured in her home tour. The bf was actually even a fan of this one. His only complaint, he wishes it were chubbier! I’ll need to start saving my pennies to have somewhere to put them because this lil guy is on the pricier side.
Hope you all had a GREAT weekend!

Royal Treatment

Some of you had asked for more info on the crown hooks my sister picked up for me so I did a little research. You can buy them online here for a steal of $11.95. Buut, if you’re ever on the Cape, head to Brewster General Store to pick up a pair of your own. They have a ton of adorable things and the most delicious fudge you will ever try!

Fit For a Queen

Friday, August 13th, 2010
My sister is finishing up her summer job at a cute store in our hometown before heading back to college. Being the greatest sister ever she offered to pick up a pair of these brass crown hooks for me before she leaves. I’m thinking they’ll be perfect his and her towel hooks in our bathroom. Everyone should start their day royally, right?

Turquoise Round Up

Thursday, August 12th, 2010
Summer may be quickly coming to a close but you can bet I’ll be wearing my turquoise jewelry till the last of my tan has faded away. Has a more perfect and happy color ever been created?
I think not!

Floral Fixation

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010
Cath Kidston’s flowery feature in the latest edition of Lonny has me considering adding a little floral to my own home.

If I could re-create this in my own bathroom I would die happy…

Unfortunately, throwing a hijink in my grand plans, the bathroom is the one room in the condo that we’re not supposed to touch… Enter Sherwin Williams Easy Change wallpaper which peels right off when it’s time to move out!
Sorting through their selection can be hellish, and a lot of the papers are more grandma than grandma chic but there are still some hidden gems.
Here are a few I found…

I wish the foliage was a little more vibrant but I do love the bright pink buds.

A little brighter and smaller scale…

Love this pattern and the subdued color.

Here are some non-florals that are also on my radar…

Love this geometric!

Until I get my beloved Zebrine I think I could be satisfied with this more subtle zebra!

What do you think? Are florals still more grandma than grandma chic?

In the Trenches

Do you ever look through your inspiration files and realize you’ve been collecting a ton of images with the same theme? I definitely notice patterns in what inspires me (i.e the trench coat photos I’ve been hoarding.) When I’m feeling a little lost on the fashion or design front, it’s always helpful to re-connect with my style through the images I’m drawn to. Given my long- standing obsession with the trench, I think it might be time to start saving up for an upgraded version. You can never go wrong with classic Burberry!

Goodbye 23, Hello 24!

Monday, August 9th, 2010
I’m back from my mini-vacay on the Cape, another year older and (hopefully) another year wiser. I had a great 23rd year and hopefully 24 will have even more exciting things in store. Here are some of my highlights from last year…
Less than 24 hours after putting on my cap and gown, I packed my bags and moved to DC with no job, just my bf and pup in tow.

I still can’t believe I took such a leap of faith but in less than a month a found a job, something that still shocks me considering how bad the economy was at the time.

I traveled to new states and cities up and down the east coast. Hitting up the local antique malls along the way.

As great as our first place was, it just never felt like home so I was thrilled to pack up yet again and move to Capitol Hill.

My 24th year is already off to a great start thanks to a great weekend with friends and family and a veryy generous gift of Louboutins from my bf. A much welcome addition to my seriously lacking shoe closet!

Looking forward to another great year!

After nine hours in the car we’re finally home on the Cape! I’m completely exhausted so you’ll have to excuse the lack of content and enjoy these road trip inspired photos while I catch up on sleep. I wish our trip was half as glamorous!

White or Bright

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010
We’re in desperate need of some new bedroom furniture, the dresser and desk I’ve had since college just aren’t cutting it anymore. Rather than go the Ikea route, I’d like to find some vintage pieces that could use a good coat of paint. The only question is what color?
White:

High St. Market

Or Bright:

Nate Berkus

What do you think?
P.S I should add that the walls are neutral and the bedding Matouk’s classic Newport.

Stacked

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

I thought I’d indulge my inner maximalist today with these cluttered corners. I’m sure I’d go a bit crazy if this were my own house, (with only 800sq ft there isn’t much room for clutter), but I think I’d be more than happy to spend a few hours among the stacks of books and other pretty things. What do you think, are these visual overload or beautifully organized chaos?
P.S I don’t have photo credits for these images so if they’re yours let me know!

Shake Your Tailfeathers

Saturday, August 29th, 2009
I recently purchased this gorgeous Super 120s pencil skirt on sale from J Crew which I’ve since been referring to as my peacock skirt. I love color so a work staple in a punchy tropical hue is right up my alley. Definitely breaks up the boring sea of black and tan!

Lately I’ve found myself gravitating towards turquoise. Here are some of my other favorites:

This dress from Lilly Pulitzer is on my must have list for fall, a peacock dress to match my peacock skirt!

A more subtle take on turquoise. Also from my favorite Lilly P.

Bright flats from Banana Republic.

A beautiful cocktail ring also from Banana Republic. Wouldn’t this be gorgeous with a LBD?

How awesome is this rug from Anthropologie?! I love the prints that are all over Etsy, Anthro took it one step further and made a rug! I couldn’t justify the 400+ price tag, and I’m willing to bet I’d get sick of this rug in a year or two, but a pretty picture nonetheless right? For now, I think I’ll opt for one of the prints!

Currently Obsessed With….

Monday, August 24th, 2009
Blogger M.A Belle’s NY apartment. I just love all the colors and patterns. I was also excited to see the orange and white bowl from Anthropologie I recently picked up prominently displayed in her bookshelf. Michelle is also the owner of the eco-conscious Rubie Green line of fabric and bedding. You really should check out their website, all of their products are SO gorgeous! If I hadn’t just bought the orange/white bedding you can bet some of Rubie Green’s would be gracing my bed!

Enjoy the eye candy!
