Take a Seat
Thursday, September 30th, 2010Remember yesterday’s de Gournay tablescape and my obsession with the orange chair? Well, I’m upping the ante! Behold this orange tufted beauty complete with nailhead trim. In the right space (read: my space) this would be a show stopper! Sadly we’re seperated by an ocean, so I’m going to need to live vicariously through one lucky Brit– I’m looking your way Will! I know it’s bright enough ha!
Fall Favorites
Thursday, September 30th, 2010
The lovely Patricia of PVE Design recently posted this illustration of her fall favorites and I just can’t stop staring so I had to re-post. Her blog is one of my daily reads and I’m sure it’s easy to see why. Thank you Patricia for reminding me of all the great things about fall. If only it would stop raining here in DC so I can enjoy them!
Giving Thanks for Kate Spade
Wednesday, September 29th, 2010The boyfriend and I will be hosting Thanksgiving this year (yes in our tiny condo on the Hill–good thing I have a small family!) so I seem to have tablescapes on my mind. I’ve always been a fan of Kate Spade’s Morella Avenue collection and was ecstatic to find it on sale at Lenox. Dinner plates are only $19.95! Time to stock up, right? I’m planning on mixing in orange, gold and accents of hot pink with flowers and taper candles. I feel an inspiration board coming on!
Bon Appetit!
Wednesday, September 29th, 2010Is this not the most beautiful place setting you’ve ever seen?! I can pretty much promise you that if I get my hands on even a scrap of de Gournay wallpaper it’ll be framed and hanging on my wall in no time flat but after seeing Martha Angus’ creative table I might be having second thoughts.
Ohh the luxury of dining on de Gournay…
P.S I think I need an orange chair like this for my desk immediately–don’t you agree?
Coco’s Cuffs
Tuesday, September 28th, 2010What image of Chanel is complete without her trademark strands of pearls? Iconic and elegant, I’m sure we’re all thankful to Chanel for popularizing the look. Lately though, I’m more interested in her lesser known signature pieces. A girl after my own heart, Chanel was not shy about rocking some serious statement jewelry and wore one of these Verdura maltese cross bangles on each wrist. Verdura is definitely not in my price range–nor am I brave enough to sport the double cuff–but these versions above from Kenneth Jay Lane for HSN are quite the convincing copies, don’t you think? I wouldn’t expect anything less from KJL.
3PM Snack
Monday, September 27th, 2010It’s getting to be about that time where I’m craving an afternoon sugar fix. I think a candy colored assortment of macaroons would do just the trick. Pretty and delicious!
Smythe’s Spots
Monday, September 27th, 2010Have you seen Tommy Smythe’s chic Toronto home? If you haven’t, check out the house tour on Apartment Therapy and report back because I swear you’ll die! My favorite part (and there’s a lot to love) are these a-m-a-zing spotted chairs. Here’s a close up….
And the room in its full glory…

After I wiped the drool away, I remembered that I had this little gem tucked away in my favorites folder. Meet Togo, only $9.99/yd from Premier Prints and the perfect doppleganger, don’t you think?
Hope you all had a great weekend! My request for fall weather was met with rain here in DC…bleh. You win some, you lose some right?
First Weekend of Fall
Saturday, September 25th, 2010Happy weekend! I hope everyone is enjoying the first official weekend of fall–although it certainly doesn’t feel like fall here in DC. I’ll be grateful for this little bit of indian summer while it lasts, but now that I’ve switched over my closet, I have to say I can’t wait to start wearing my sweaters and boots! Any special plans this weekend? I have a friend visiting from out of town that I haven’t seen in wayy too long but I know we’ll pick right back up where we left off. Aren’t those the best kind of friends? Hope you all have a fabulous weekend. Catch back up on Monday!
A New Fall Palette
Friday, September 24th, 2010I came across this amazing necklace at one of my favorite online shops, Cerulean. The color combo of pink, orange, purple and gold isn’t your typical fall color palette but I’m loving it and will definitely be incorporating it into my wardrobe. The best part… it’s only $42.00!
Happy shopping!
Flamingo Dancing
Thursday, September 23rd, 2010
In the craziness of this week, I just realized I haven’t shared my finds from South Carolina! Of course I couldn’t come home empty handed (although I’m sure my boyfriend is disappointed I couldn’t ha!) My favorite find is this framed Audobon flamingo print. I love, love, the hot pink and it’s goofy stance just makes me smile. I wasn’t letting this one get away so I sucked it up and paid to ship it home. I’m definitely glad that I did!
And as proof to the boyfriend that I’m not losing it and exhibiting signs of questionable taste…
Bunny Williams has a similar print in her gorgeous Sea Island home!
Birds of a feather flock together!
Philippa Roberts for Me and You!
Thursday, September 23rd, 2010One of my favorite things about blogging (aside from “meeting” so many amazing people!) is that I’m constantly being introduced to new brands that I love. Enter Philippa Roberts… Philippa was born in South Africa to a jewelry making family, opened her own studio in 1996 and has been taking inspiration from the pacific coast and making beautiful jewelry in the San Francisco Bay area ever since.
Philippa was kind enough to send me a necklace and earrings from her ocean collection and I was seriously taken aback by how gorgeous the chalcedony is in person. Being from Cape Cod, you know I love the ocean and these really do remind me of home. I wore them to work yesterday and received a ton of compliments–even from my cashier at CVS ha!
Here’s how I wore it…
Philippa is celebrating the 4th anniversary of her namesake studio with a special discount for YOU! From now until Oct. 31st you’ll receive 20% off by using the code “star0910″. The holidays really aren’t too far away, stock up on some amazing gifts now!
P.S I’m sure your boyfriends/hubbies will be very grateful if you happen to leave a little hint for something for yourself!
Thank you to Philippa and team!
LEAP
Tuesday, September 21st, 2010“Leap and the net will appear”
-John Burroughs
I’ve never considered myself to be much of a risk taker but sometimes you just have to follow your gut. This quote from John Burroughs seems to be my personal mantra lately as I mull over some pretty big professional changes. It certainly seems like a long way down when you’re about to jump though doesn’t it?
P.S I’d love to hear about some your own “leaps” because I’m definitely in need of a shot of courage!
Charmed
Tuesday, September 21st, 2010I’m back from my trip down south and what a trip it was! We ate and shopped and ate some more–of course while convincing ourselves that we were burning plenty of cals by walking around so much (riiight). Thank you again for your amazing recommendations, everything was spot on. I might not be thanking you while I’m at the gym for a few extra hours this week but it was well worth it! I’m convinced that Charleston is one of the most charming cities around and I’ll definitely be back. Case in point: look at these beach cruisers lined up in front of the Vendue Inn, I’m in love! Excuse me while I take today to re-adjust to the daily grind. Sigh..
Goodbye Charleston, Hello Dottie!
Monday, September 20th, 2010A few months back I had the pleasure of reviewing an adorable dress by Lesley Evers. This summer it saved me from looking like a complete slob at work after I had snoozed one–okay, maybe more like three–too many times! This year Lesley is debuting her first fall line and I was thrilled to be asked to review one of the dresses because I really am a huge fan!
As usual, my dress came beautifully wrapped–P.S because of this ribbon I’m now obsessed with this color purple for fall!
I decided on the Dottie dress. Loved the geometric pattern and because it’s sleeveless I thought it’d be a great transition piece for fall.

The Dottie made it into my suitcase to Charleston this weekend for a test run, and honestly, I can’t think of a single negative thing about it! The cotton is a heavier weight for fall, but the dress is completely lined so I wasn’t at all uncomfortable in the 80+ degree heat.
Here’s how I wore it…
I paired it with a triple strand turquoise necklace–obviously living in complete denial that summer is over! Once the colder weather comes I’ll be throwing on some tights, boots, and a boyfriend cardigan. Can’t wait!

I think the Riley (above) might be next on my list. How adorable is she with her duck boots?! Guarantee I could not pull this one off! Check out the rest of the fall collection and let me know what you think!
Treasure Hunting
Thursday, September 16th, 2010I just touched down in Charlotte, NC en route to Charleston and of course I have to make a pit stop at The Sleepy Poet Antique Mall. Last time I was in town I fell in love with this amazingly huge botanical print. Sadly, I had to leave it behind because of shipping logistics–buying an extra seat on the plane just might have crossed my mind (ha!) Anyway, in typical fashion I’ve been thinking about it for the past four months so in the infinitely small chance it might be there, you better believe I’m finding a way to smuggle it home!
P.S thank you so much for all your sweet comments about my Aunt Edie, I’m always touched and overwhelmed by your kindness!
Remembering…
Thursday, September 16th, 2010Tonight I’m remembering my great-great-great aunt Edie who passed away earlier this evening. That’s a lot of “greats” for only being 79 right? I’ll be forever grateful to her for encouraging my interest in art when I was young. After visiting her house I’d leave loaded down with books on painting in watercolor or oils. Who knows if I’d be the creative person I am today without her early support. Love and miss you Auntie Edie!
Bedroom Brights
Monday, September 13th, 2010I’m in the process of re-decorating our bedroom (I know, surprise, surprise, I’m sick of something after only six months) and am loving these crazy bright rooms for inspiration.
Charleston Bound
Friday, September 10th, 2010I guess I’m not quite ready to commit to the cooler temperatures here in DC because next week I’m headed south to sunny Charleston, SC. It’ll be my first visit to this charming city so I’d be extremely grateful for any and all recommendations. I’ll only be in town for a long weekend so I’d like to pack in as much as possible. So lovely readers… what can’t I miss? I’d love to hear your suggestions on places to shop shop shop, sights to see, and most importantly where to eat!
P.S Brunch at the famed Hominy Grill is definitely on our agenda!
Congratulations To….
Thursday, September 9th, 2010Living Well! You are the winner of the gorgeous Plum Pretty Sugar lounge pants (jealousss!) Contact me with your shipping info so we can get them on their way to you.
Brimfield Snapshots
Thursday, September 9th, 2010
Yesterday my parents made a day trip to the famous Brimfield Antique Show in Brimfield, MA. Knowing I was completely jealous, my mom snapped lots of pictures and texted me throughout the day. I just about died when I opened the photo of the faux bamboo lucite chairs. Wouldn’t they look amazing with hot pink seat cushions? If you’re in the area definitely stop by and take some pictures to make us all jealous. Make sure you bring your stamina because the booths strech for milesss!
P.S those pillow covers in the first photo are the only thing my mom brought home. Her restraint is epic, right? I’d probably need a Uhaul!
Don’t Forget…
Thursday, September 9th, 2010Vintage Vogue
Wednesday, September 8th, 2010I’m completely obsessed with this vintage Vogue cover. Dark smokey eyes and a fab leopard coat… Could she be more glamorous?
Even though this would look great as a stand alone, I had to post one of my favorite photos from Absolutely Beautiful Things. If I’m lucky enough to have a dressing room in my future home, a gallery wall like this will definitely be a part of it!
A girl can dream, right?
A Perfect Pair
Tuesday, September 7th, 2010Gorgeous blue lacquered living room by Christina Murphy…
I can’t get enough of this shade for fall! What do you think?
Hello, Fall
Monday, September 6th, 2010If you’re like me and having a hard time packing up your sundresses and saying goodbye to summer, the newest necklaces from Elva Fields’ fall collection will surely soften the blow. Gorgeous, right?
Mad Men in Rolling Stone
Friday, September 3rd, 2010I’m a huge Mad Men fan so I just about died when I saw these shots from the latest issue of Rolling Stone. How gorgeous is Christina Hendricks. Can you say girl crush?!

My Style Defined: Color+Pattern
Wednesday, September 1st, 2010
Classic pieces definitely make up the fundamentals of my wardrobe but I’m also addicted to color and pattern. I could probably post for the next two months on the topic and not get bored (although you might!) Having grown up on Cape Cod, I live for the summer, and to me, summer means brightly colored dreses and a great tan. I’m sure you’ve all heard about the fabulous designer Jules Reid, but she really has captured this aesthetic perfectly. I’m completely obsessed with her geometric prints and bold use of color. Her classic shapes like the Harrison shift and Peony dress make her pieces even more versatile.
P.S I should mention that her Spring/Summer collection is 50% off right now. This could be trouble for my wallet!!
Also, in full disclosure I am not being compensated for this post I’m just a big fan!
Fancy Footwork
Monday, September 21st, 2009Since it’s noticeably chillier here in DC, I’m starting to come to terms with the fact that fall is upon us. Which is fine, as long as I can have all of these adorable shoes!
I am always on the hunt for the perfect animal print flats without having to pay a fortune. This pair from Target is only $12! I’ll have to check them out in person to determine how poor the quality is. Since they obviously won’t last forever, they might be the perfect shoe to throw in my purse while traveling to work.
I am definitely in need of a new pair of gold ballet flats. I’ve worn my old pair into the ground and I think a new pair of Revas are definitely a good investment.
A great pair of boots is essential for fall. I was impressed with this affordable equestrian inspired pair from Talbots.
In case you haven’t noticed, I’m a big ballet flat fan. Here’s my “kind find’ of the day:
Bon Chic
Monday, September 7th, 2009How adorable are these candles from Seda France. They have certainly mastered the art of packaging! I haven’t sampled these yet myself but Raspberry Pomegranate and Sugar Blossom Lime sound promising.
Here are some other products from Seda France. No wrapping required for these hostess gifts. Add a cute pack of matches and you’re ready to go. My favorite are the pagoda candles. I’ll have to get to a retail store so I can pick my favorite scent!
I’m glad to be finally packed for my trip to Florida. Packing for two weeks can be time consuming when you’re like me and like to pick out each individual outfit down to the shoes and accessories!
If anyone has any suggestions for things to do in the Gainesville, Tallahassee, Pensacola and Orlando area I’d love to hear them! I’ll be in each area for several days visiting colleges/universities. Hopefully I’ll find some free time as well!
