Sister Parish is one of the original grande-dames of decorating. Hired by Jackie Kennedy to decorate the Kennedy White House, and later founding Parish-Hadley with legendary interior designer,Albert Hadley, her career was certainly iconic.
I was thrilled to stumble upon Sister Parish Design and see that Parish’s granddaughter, Susan Bartlett Crater, and her last apprentice, Libby Cameron, have resurrected the classic fabrics and wallpaper that Parish was known for. It’s amazing how fresh and current they feel. Further proof that classic design never goes out of style!
These snaps from John Derian’s Provincetown, MA home featured in Bon Appetit magazine are the perfect send off to Memorial Day weekend. I will actually be spending the weekend at home on the Cape, but I can promise you I won’t look nearly as effortlessly cool and stylish. I do wish I were hanging out with Julia Leach, owner of Chance, pictured in the first photo. What are your plans for the weekend?
P.S Fun fact: my family grew up in Provicetown and my great-grandmother’s old house is actually right around the corner from Derian’s home. I’ll definitely be making a visit when his shop opens in June!
I splurged a bit on flowers this weekend but it was well worth it. Aren’t peonies the most beautiful flowers? I positioned mine on our entry table so they’re the first thing you see when you walk through the door. Instant happiness!

It’s hard to believe we’ve been in our new place for almost four months. Am I even allowed to still call it “our new place” if it’s been this long? We’ve made quite a bit of progress (i.e painting every single room and ceiling. They were all brown when we moved in, yes ceilings too) but now it’s time to make some of the bigger decorating decisions.
The living room in particular has been a challenge but I think I’m finally starting to wrap my head around it. I’m gravitating towards a classic palette of blue and white punctuated with accents of turquoise. Of course now that I’ve somewhat come to a decision, the rug I fell in love with is on back order. Isn’t that always how it goes?
Work has been particularly challenging this week (read frustrating.. is it Memorial Day Weekend yet?!) so I’m taking a little mental vacation courtesy of J.Crew’s Bali Adventure travelogue. What I wouldn’t give for an exotic escape and a suitcase filled with those beautiful outfits! If anyone else is having a rough week I hope these photos will give you a brief respite from your work day. After all, it is almost Friday!
