This weekend I read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. The book documents the Kingsolver family’s experience moving to a rural farm where they endeavor to eat only food that has been locally produced (much of which they farmed or raised themselves) for one year. I’m feeling inspired to be a bit more thoughtful about exactly what I’m putting into my mouth. My thumbs might as well be black, and I hardly see myself moving to a West Virginia farm anytime soon , but that doesn’t mean I can’t make more of an effort to shop locally (especially with a farmer’s market just a few blocks away).
Here are a few farm-to-table inspired items to get me motivated. Do you take care in your food selections to source mainly local produce?

I read that book a few summers ago and absolutely loved it! Incredibly inspiring, although I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a novel. I thought they actually did it
I’m jealous of your D.C. Farmers’ Market. I have to drive 30 minutes each way to get to our nearest farmers’ market. Worth it, but totally frustrating.
You’re right, thanks for the catch!
Thanks for the book recommendation. I need to check it out. I am kind of in love with the botanical print.
i’m digging those salad bowls.
That was a great book, it made me really wish I had space to garden in the city!
I agree! It’s such a tradeoff sometimes!
This book sounds like an interesting read! I am right there with ya- I can’t grow anything but I would love to be more conscious of my food choices.
