Six weeks ago, I joined a group of bloggers with the challenge of finally tackling that one room you’ve been meaning to decorate. The rules were simple, we had six weeks to complete our space and every week we would blog about our progress. If you’re new to this series, start at Week One to follow along from the beginning.
THE PROJECT
For a quick overview, I decided to use the word ‘room’ a bit loosely in choosing my space. I decided on our stairwell, which was at the time boring and beige. As a renter, my goal was make a big visual impact without committing a ton of resources to the project.
Over the past six weeks I painted, replaced the existing track lighting with an amazing vintage chandelier, sourced new art, and hung a gallery wall. Now it’s judgement time. Here’s what the space looks like today!
A gallery wall runs diagonally up the stairs. As you can see, I still need a few more pieces to fill it out but I’ve decided to let it evolve organically rather than rush to fill the space.
The view from the landing.
A close up of one of my vintage nautical charts. Do you like the way the painted mattes turned out?
A few of my favorite pieces in the gallery wall: a chair by Anne Harwell and a vintage Vogue cover.
Just to show how far we’ve come, here’s what the space looked like at week one! Yikes!
Special thanks to Linda for organizing this challenge and inviting me to participate. I hope you’ve enjoyed following along!

Baby, it’s all good….as they say. That color you chose for the walls is the perfect jumping off point for your art. The painted mattes look great. Your choice is art is also fantastic. BUT, the show stopper for me…how about that chandelier Yummo!!What a nice transition from the before.
It looks awesome! I really like how your art (and frames) are all different. I prefer the collected look to matchy-matchy art by a long shot. I also appreciate that you’re letting it evolve organically. You’ll end up with much better pieces than if you’d just rushed to fill it, because honestly, six weeks is a really short time to find a bunch of art you love! And of course, as Linda already said above, the chandelier is the show stopper. I’m still drooling over that find!
Niiiice. I DO love the nautical charts, and the painted Mats is very smart. I think that HGTV Design Star chick copied you!!:) Overall it looks beautiful and I agree with letting meaningful pieces find you as you add to it! Love your choices very cool, very original. Amazing transformation for sure!
You did a wonderful job. I love the wall color – great minds think alike – it is similar to my mint green kitchen walls. The chandelier is fantastic. The gallery wall is so cool. Quite a transformation!
It looks great!! And the idea of just letting it fill in organically is definitely the way to go — that way you can be sure you love each individual piece that goes up. Bravo on your one room! xx
FABULOUS TRANSFORMATION. The frames, the colors and the chandelier…..AWESOME JOB
I love all the art you have! You took a overlooked space and made it fab!
It looks great! I love that you are going to let the gallery evolve, I think those are the best ones. And the painted mats look perfect with your vintage maps. What a great space!!
This turned out beautifully! What a difference the warm wall color and the art and chandelier make … very inviting this “room” of yours!! It will make you smile every time you pass through!

What a transformation! That chandelier just makes the space. Your gallery is beautiful! Great job!
Goodness it looks stunning! I love the wall color, I love the eclectic blend of frames and all the art is lovely. Great job!!!

Amazing job! It looks gorgeous! LOVE LOVE LOVE the chandelier!
I can’t even imagine painting that high wall. Excellent! The minty green paint is soooo refreshing! Great job on the gallery wall. My fav is between the chair picture and the big floral. Great job!
I love the collection of art, especially the vintage Vogue print! Great makeover of an under-utilized space.
