A classic fisherman’s sweater is one of my fall staples. I like to layer mine over a chambray button down and pair with minnies for the ultimate casual weekend ensemble. Gwyneth, of course, looks a million times more chic with her polka dotted shorts, but I’m not even going to try and compete with that!
Can I let you in on a secret? The best fisherman’s sweater can be found in the most unlikely of places.. the LL Bean boys department! I have the classic cream in a size L and loove it. The fit is a little bit slouchy so I might even size down to a M when I buy the heather grey this year.

LOVE the sweater! I just pulled out all my “winter” clothes because I was freezing in my house this morning. When I stepped outside I was floored by how warm it was, needless to say I was completely over dressed. But a sweater and shorts would have been perfect!! I might be trying that combo tomorrow. Great post!

How funny!! I love LL Bean…I love that trick and may copy you because I love me a good cable knit. I actually did a guest post on them recently. Ever since I was 15 I was always a navy blazer kind of a girl and could never find one to fit properly so I would always get them at the Brooks Brothers Boy department!! Perfect!
I LOVE my fisherman sweater. Not only is it a beautiful ivory turtleneck sweater that I love to pair with cords and jeans in the winter, but it has sentimental value. I was telling my dad how much I wanted a fisherman sweater and he proceeded to give me a fisherman sweater that my great-grandma had hand made for him. It shrunk in the wash many years ago, but I’m so glad my dad held onto it to pass on to me!

I was skeptical of buying a sweater from LL Bean as the only ones I found were either the men’s wool one in S or from the boys department. I ordered the Large in the little boy’s and the Small from the men’s. The Small is absolutely way too big on me and looks like I am wearing my grandpa’s oversized sweater. The boys’ Large is a bit big too but I still love it. I think I will go with the Medium next time…thanks for the tip!
