Cheers to 2013!

As I read through everyone’s 2012 recap posts filled with incredible personal achievements and pinch me moments, I can’t help but feel a little envious. To be honest, 2012 was a bit of a struggle for me. It certainly had it’s fair share of highlights, but was also filled with quite a few of those crisis of self confidence moments that seem to be so common in your mid-twenties.

Needless to say, I couldn’t be more excited to ring in 2013 with a glass of champagne in hand and the feeling that 2013 is filled with promise.

Cheers to 2013 and may it be our best year yet!

The Pursuit of Style | This and That

Nicole Hanley Mellon | Stark Antelope Carpet | Proenza Schouler Clutch

Move over leopard print, I have a new animal print obsession. Whether you want to call it antelope, or chieko deer, (I’m sticking with antelope) I want it in a bad way! I’ve had Stark’s carpet on the ‘dream home backburner’ but this Proenza Schouler clutch reignited my love for it. There’s just something about those white spots.

What do you think, could this be the new leopard print? I think I’m willing to convert…

If you were to visit my apartment, one thing you might notice is that I’ve unintentionally amassed a mini safari of animal art. My menagerie currently includes: one rhino, one giraffe, and one flamingo. Don’t worry, they’re spread throughout different rooms!

Yesterday I popped into the new Jonathan Adler store in Georgetown and was immediately drawn to two large scale portraits of exotic birds by artist Leila Jeffreys. One more piece of animal art might take my apartment from eclectic to crazy, but these were too beautiful not to share.

I love how the artist was able to capture so much personality and expression in these portraits. Plus, the colors are just stunning. Nature really does offer the best inspiration.

P.S Visit me at La Dolce Vita today for my second Style Spotting column. I’d love to hear what you think!

1. Grapefruit and Rosemary Cocktails | 2. Majolie Pink Opal Necklace | 3. Gilded Coasters | 4. Tulle Skirt (similar) | 5. D. Porthault Jete De Fleurs Boudoir Pillow | 6. Chloe Ballet Flats

We went to see The Nutcracker this weekend and as always, I was completely inspired by the costumes, set design, and elegance of the ballet. It really is magical. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to sit through a performance without secretly wishing I was a ballerina.

Toe shoes might be out of the question, but I think these Chloe ballet flats would fill the void quite nicely, don’t you?

P.S I’m still incredibly saddened by the events in Newtown, CT. To be honest, I haven’t quite felt like posting. Everything just seems hollow in comparison to those beautiful little children I can’t stop thinking about. Ultimately, I thought posting might be a welcome distraction to anyone feeling similarly. #PrayForNewtown
