This past weekend I had the amazing opportunity to meet Dior’s first Artist-in-Residence, Bil Donovan, at Saks Fifth Avenue in Chevy Chase. When I signed up for the event I thought I was signing up for a meet and greet and was excited enough at the prospect of chatting with someone of Mr. Donovan’s talent.
When I got there, I quickly found out that event actually consisted of having your make-up professionally applied by one of Dior’s make-up artists and then sitting for a portrait with Mr. Donovan. Whoa, Kate Middleton moment! So much better than I ever could have expected.
I’m a bit hopeless with make-up so it was an indulgent, but also instructive exercise in how to apply a smokey eye and not have it look like I’ve been punched in the face. Game changer for sure. When it came time to sit for my portrait I was super nervous, but Mr. Donovan truly could not be kinder. I jokingly asked him for longer eyelashes to which he responded ‘well it is fashion illustration.’ Love him!
I’m so excited to have such a special piece of art and can’t wait to get it to the framers. Hopefully this post doesn’t sound incredibly vain, but how often do you get to have your own fashion illustration done?!
