LET’S CHAT

Turban

You guys have been quiet lately so I thought it was time for a Lets Chat. Sometimes with blogging it feels so weird just putting stuff out there into the black hole of the Internet. That’s why I love these posts. The Internet becomes less of a black hole and more of a cocktail party spent getting to know awesome people who love the same things I do. So let’s chat…

Best gift you’ve ever received: I’ve only come to appreciate this as a gift recently, and it’s sappy, but my education. Thanks Mom and Dad! Best gift you’ve ever received: Agreed, my education was huge, as were the many amazing trips my parents paid for… Recently though, one of my very generous girlfriends gifted me a ticket to the Patron’s Show at the Torpedo Factory. We had a blast together at the event (you should check it out next year!) and I came home with a fantastic piece of art that will always remind me of her.

    • So with you on the dancing. I’ll add that to my wish list too. The Patron’s Show sounds like so much fun. I’ll definitely look into it for next year. Maybe I’ll finally get a piece of Tory Cowles work!

  4. Talent you wish you had: Singing!
Best gift you’ve ever received: Besides my engagement ring/wedding I would say a painting of the Snake River from my dad. It was a total surprise and really thoughtful.
Most memorable stamp in your passport: I am grateful to say that this is a hard one! I guess Botswana where after one two many sundowners we jumped into a Hippo pond. It’s a miracle that we made it out alive- a story for the grandkids!
Something you’re excited about: Building my business
Favorite restaurant (share the city too so we an visit!): Malatesta in NYC. It’s a tiny, cash only hole in the wall in the West Village and serves the BEST truffle risotto.
Camo Pants: Do or Don’t?:DO. Camo is be the leopard of the moment- I have a pair of navy camo pants from Zara and they are a great substitute for jeans when I want to shake things up a bit.

    • I don’t know if this is true, but I’ve heard that there are more hippo-related deaths in Africa (or maybe just Kenya? that’s where I was when I heard this) than any other animal. I think it’s because tourists realize that walking up to a lion is a bad idea but don’t consider the possibility of being trampled by an enormous hippo… Glad you made it out ok! But you’re right, what an awesome story!

  7. This is fun!

Talent you wish you had: Sewing. I would make window treatments for my house and save myself a lot of $$.

Best gift you’ve ever received: This is a tough one. I am grateful for so much. One gift I loved recently was tickets back to my hometown to be able to go to one of my best friend’s surprise 30th birthday parties. My husband and I moved away this summer and I’ve missed out on a lot of activities at home. I initially rsvped no to my friend’s party and then a week before he came home late from work and told me he had bought me tickets home for the weekend to be able to go to the party. I cried I was so excited!

Most memorable stamp in your passport: Argentina! – for my honeymoon (Brazil too!). Cannot recommend Mendoza enough!!

Something you’re excited about: Starting a new job on Monday! A bit of a career change and it’s a mix of nervous and excited but I can’t wait!

Favorite Restaurant: Three that are tied (I seriously cannot decide): 1. Macintosh in Charleston, SC. This is upscale American fare. Love it!!; 2. Fire in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho. This is a more casual wood fire pizza place. I had hands down the best pizza of my life here. The atmosphere is great. I think about this pizza all the time still; and 3. Girl and the Goat in Chicago. Simply delicious food. Come with an open mind and get the pig face. You will not regret it.

Camo Pants – do or don’t: I’ve been struggling with this question too! I just saw a pair at Gap and tried them on and liked them but wasn’t sure if I could pull them off. I’m gonna work on my self confidence and say do!

Favorite restaurant (share the city too so we an visit!): Just go to Bologna in Italy and you’ll understand why I can’t decide.

Camo Pants: Do or Don’t?: Never. They look trashy unless you’re in the military. Like wearing a Catholic school girl skirt to look sexy…it’s a uniform, not fashion.

  10. Talent you wish you had: I wish I could draw. I see something and think, “I can totally do this!” And then, the drawings of a first grader come out on my paper. Not even close!

Best gift you’ve ever received: This is a tough one. There are many things in my life that are special, but the most recent one is a vintage coat that was my mom’s coat. It’s from the “first chapter” of her life, given to her in college. It’s fur and not the faux kind (sorry!), but it’s in amazing condition, and it still smells like the perfume she wore in the 70s. I used to twirl around in it as a kid, playing dress up in her closet. It’s a special family heirloom.

Most memorable stamp in your passport: South Africa! I’m ready to go back at anytime! What a wonderful place.

Something you’re excited about: Planning a fall trip to Paris and French wine country. My husband’s not so keen on us doing this by ourselves (he’d rather have a tour set-up), but I think the adventure will be fantastic!

Favorite restaurant (share the city too so we an visit!)In my hometown outside of Pittsburgh, PA there is a pizza place called Bud Murphy’s. It’s divey and not very classy, but it’s delicious and the cold beer is better there than anywhere I’ve been. Must be that home sweet home kind of thing.

Camo Pants: Do or Don’t?: A total Do but on the cheap!! Gap has a really cute, cropped pair right now. Express does too. Not worth spending too much money on, but I believe they are much more versatile than one thinks!

  11. Great post idea! I love a little Friday chit chat!

Talent you wish you had: Photoshop. As someone that is more technical, you’d think I’d get it. But it’s just one of those programs you open and it has so much capability, that it completely overwhelms you. I’m working on it.

Best gift you’ve ever received: Tied. My education and my horse/financial support when I was competing as a teen. Both were such large financial commitments and sacrifices that my parents made for me, both without hesitation or pressure to succeed. I can easily say both experiences shaped who I am today and am grateful everyday to have had them!

Favorite restaurant (share the city too so we an visit!): Belle Epicurean in Seattle. It’s more of a cafe/bakery but its decorated like a little Parisian cafe and let’s me pretend I’m in Europe. Not to mention everything they make is beyond amazing.

Camo Pants: Do or Don’t?: I think they can be a do so long as the pattern is muted and you pair them with classics.

  12. Talent you wish you had: The ability to always say the right thing for the moment.
Best gift you’ve ever received: The gift of going to any college I wanted and being able to study abroad!

Most memorable stamp in your passport:
    Austria
    Something you’re excited about:
The re-brand of my blog and site, and the launch of my shop. I am giddy excited with every piece I add to the inventory. Somehow buying and selling furniture cures my desire to shop and lets me make a hobby into a business and I am so silly excited to be figuring it all out…slowly.

Camo Pants: Do or Don’t?: A do for others, but unfortunately not for me!

Most memorable stamp in your passport: considering they don’t do this anymore (much to my dismay) and the fact that I’ve only ever been out of the country on my SB cruise last year I vote Cozumel, Mexico.
