The Pursuit of Style

Two: the number of times the entire contents of my makeup bag tumbled to the floor in one morning. One: the number of temper tantrums it took me to realize the damn thing was overflowing and it was time to do something about it. Five: the number of products currently in my makeup bag.

If we wanted to keep playing this numbers game we could add ten million to that list because that’s how many pieces my favorite NARS blush is in after it took its second tumble. It’s okay though, I’m considering it a casualty in my war against clutter.

After recovering from my brief fit of rage I decided to edit wayy down to just the essentials. The things I buy again and again and use everyday without fail. If I had to put together an “if you were stranded on a deserted island” type beauty bag this is what would be in mine (okay, and maybe some sunscreen).

Josie Maran Argan Oil: This stuff is liquid gold. I mix in three drops with my moisturizer a few times a week before putting on my make up and my skin has never felt better. Healthier, well hydrated, and on the days I use it I notice a dewier glow.

Blistex Daily Conditioning Treatment: I’m 100% addicted. I always have at least one in my bag, one on my nightstand, and one in my car. I’ve tried a million other things but always come back to this no-frills drug store staple. I love the texture and it has SPF which is a must for me in the summer.

Urban Decay 24/7 Concealer: My sister got me hooked on this over Christmas and as soon as I got home I bought my own. In terms of application you can’t get much easier than a big crayon and it covers amazingly well and stays put all day. Super important for days when my dark circles could have me confused for the walking dead.

Benefit They’re Real Mascara: This was another recommendation from my sister who–as you might have guessed–is a product junkie. Especially with mascara. I swear, on any given day you’ll find at least six different tubes in her makeup bag. This is her favorite and now I’m a devotee too. I’m the biggest skeptic EVER but I promise you, this works. Your lashes will look longer!

Tarte Eyelash CurlerIf there’s one thing I’m vain about it’s curling my lashes. I switched to this eyelash curler after years of a Shu Uemura and haven’t looked back!

Hopefully you’re as nosy as I am and enjoyed a peek into my makeup bag. I’m always so curious about other people’s beauty routines and would love to know what your essentials are. If you had to edit down to 5 what would they be?

  1. Yes, that eyelash curler is so cute! And so is your make-up bag.
I try to bring as little as possible, but most often I don’t have time in the morning to get ready so I have to bring my makeup with me to work/school!
If I had to take only five items with me: primer, foundation, concealer, powder, blush! Do brushes count? Because I need a powder brush and a blush brush. Hmm.

  2. I NEED an eyelash curler. I broke my last one and this one looks like fun. I’ve always wanted to try that Josie Maran Argan oil and have heard great things about the Benefit mascara! Glad to know you recommend them! xo

  3. 1. Maybelline One-By-One Mascara – I’ve used Chanel, Lancome, and countless others, and I swear by it…eyelash extensions in a bottle
    2. Eyeko Eyeliner – Got it in my BirchBox and won’t ever go back! Perfect line w/o the smudging
    3. Joeur Tinted Moisturizer – Amazing dewy glow w/ great coverage…another Birchbox find
    4. Cetaphil – BEST moisturizer. I have hopelessly dry skin, and its the best
    5. Wet N Wild Eye Shadow – I know, I know, budget brand from CVS, but I swear its fab

  4. I cannot tell you how many NARS orgasm blushes I have had explode in my bathroom floor as I shuffle through my many tubes of mascara! My solution to the problem has been to buy the NARS Multiple- same color, no exploding compact!

  5. Have been meaning to pick up Josie Maran Argan Oil, will definitely be giving it a try!

1- Cerave AM SPF 30 moisturizer
2- Tarte Flush for cheeks and lips
3 – The Balm Bahama Mama bronzer for contouring
4 – Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Concealer
5 – Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow in Slate for filling in my eyebrows and contouring my eyes (really makes green eyes pop!)

  6. Ah, I am going to have to try that Urban Decay concealer. I am always searching for something that will cover my dark circles. A stick concealer sounds quick and easy!

  7. Did you know DCT also works wonders on nails? Seriously – rub some in before you go to bed and your cuticles will be a million times softer.
