BITS & PIECES: THE BEAUTY EDITION

The Pursuit of Style

In the four years I’ve been writing The Pursuit of Style you’ll find less than a dozen posts on beauty/skincare. I’ve honestly just never been much of a product junkie. It’s actually kind of funny to compare my make-up bag in 2012 and 2013–maybe 2-3 new additions? Booring. I share this to explain the massive freakout that recently ensued when my normally low maintenance skin started becoming more troublesome.

Chalk it up to getting older, or maybe all those summers growing up on the Cape spent competing to get the most tan–”I’m Portuguese, I don’t burn” I would say proudly… Yeah, that was DUMB–but suddenly fine lines started to become more visible (at least to me) and sun spot appeared after weekends at the pool. As I said, massive freakout.

¬†This summer I added some new products to my routine that have since become favorites: Murad’s Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Serum for getting rid of those sun spots and Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate for intense hydration while I sleep and better looking skin by morning. Maybe it’s a rite of passage, but I feel like I’ve gone completely down the rabbit hole and am now so interested in skincare.

Olay recently offered to send me their Regenerist Anti-Wrinkle Revolution Complex and Micro-Sculpting Eye Cream and Lash Serum and whereas a year ago I probably would have said thanks, but no thanks, this budding product junkie was surprisingly game. Of the two, the Anti-Wrinkle Revolution Complex was the star. I’ve been using it twice a day for almost three weeks now and do think I’ve seen an improvement, but only time will tell. At the very least, I’ve been enjoying its silky texture.

If there’s one beauty product I will admit to being a complete junkie for, it would be lipgloss. (Embarrassing secret, I once had an AOL screename ‘LipglossLinds’.) On the day-to-day you will never find me without (seriously, I mean NEVER) a tub of Blistex’s Daily Conditioning Treatment but you can also see I hoard Stila Lip Glazes for when I want a little color.

Well I’m about to betray years of loyalty and tell you I think I may have found something better:¬†Maybelline Color Elixir. I was sent samples as part of a collaboration with Refinery29 #MyLipMagic and they’re fantastic. You get the pigment of a lipstick, hydration of a balm, and shine of a gloss. Triple threat. I’m wearing ‘Fuschia Flourish’ above.

So here’s what you really want to know: would I spend my own money on the Regenerist and Color Elixir? Yes! Here’s what I want to know: what are your beauty/skincare secrets?

Keeping it real: This post was sponsored by Olay through their partnership with POPSUGAR Select. While I was compensated to write a post about Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Eye Cream & Lash Serum Duo and Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex, all opinions are my own.

  1. I have been using Olay Regenerist Micro Sculpting cream for several years and really like it. When you need an extra dose of moisture for the winter season it does the trick.
