I recently picked up a copy of English Decoration by British architect and interior designer, Ben Pentreath. Ben’s conversational writing drew me in so completely I read it cover to cover in front of the fire the first day I received it.

If you’re looking for a design book where the pillows are karate chopped into submission and every featured project is styled within an inch of its life, this is not the book for you. If you’re interested in a peek inside the homes of some inspiring British creatives that live like real people, I think you’ll be refreshed by this book.

My favorite interiors were Ben’s own residences in Dorset and London (featured above). His lived-in luxe aesthetic inspires me to no end. Every time I look back through the photos my eye finds some new detail I somehow missed on my last perusal. Aren’t those the best kind of interiors?

P.S Ben also has a fantastic shop that has been added to my must-visit list the next time I’m across the pond. Until then, online shopping will have to suffice!

  1. I’ve always wondered how some people can make unmatching furniture look so good. I feel like if I do it, everything would just look like a bunch of clutter lol Thanks for the tip. This sounds like a good book for a nice home redecoration project.
