SCENT APPEAL

Into the Gloss | Jen Brill

Into the Gloss | Vanessa Traina

Into the Gloss | Tory Burch

I recently realized it’s been about three months since I used up the last spritz in my perfume and I still haven’t bought another bottle. I’m having commitment issues. I’ve worn Chance and Mademoiselle but I just don’t think they’re the ones. You know, my signature scent. Doesn’t that expression sound so “ladies who lunch”? Love it.

If I were to pick purely on aesthetics, I’d love to find something by Jo Malone or Le Labo. Their bottles are just too chic. Molly has me curious about Joie’s Folle de Joie and I’m even considering revisiting kai, the fragrance I wore in high school.

So do tell, have you found your signature scent? If not, what are you currently wearing?

P.S be sure to visit me over on Cupcakes for Breakfast today where I’m sharing how I’m  “Figuring it Out”

THE ESSENTIALS

The Pursuit of Style

Stephanie Johnson Palm Desert Bag (gifted) | Josie Maran Argan Oil | Blistex Daily Conditioning Treatment | Urban Decay 24/7 Concealer | Tarte Eyelash Curler | Benefit They’re Real Mascara

Two: the number of times the entire contents of my makeup bag tumbled to the floor in one morning. One: the number of temper tantrums it took me to realize the damn thing was overflowing and it was time to do something about it. Five: the number of products currently in my makeup bag.

If we wanted to keep playing this numbers game we could add ten million to that list because that’s how many pieces my favorite NARS blush is in after it took its second tumble. It’s okay though, I’m considering it a casualty in my war against clutter.

After recovering from my brief fit of rage I decided to edit wayy down to just the essentials. The things I buy again and again and use everyday without fail. If I had to put together an “if you were stranded on a deserted island” type beauty bag this is what would be in mine (okay, and maybe some sunscreen).

Josie Maran Argan Oil: This stuff is liquid gold. I mix in three drops with my moisturizer a few times a week before putting on my make up and my skin has never felt better. Healthier, well hydrated, and on the days I use it I notice a dewier glow.

Blistex Daily Conditioning Treatment: I’m 100% addicted. I always have at least one in my bag, one on my nightstand, and one in my car. I’ve tried a million other things but always come back to this no-frills drug store staple. I love the texture and it has SPF which is a must for me in the summer.

Urban Decay 24/7 Concealer: My sister got me hooked on this over Christmas and as soon as I got home I bought my own. In terms of application you can’t get much easier than a big crayon and it covers amazingly well and stays put all day. Super important for days when my dark circles could have me confused for the walking dead.

Benefit They’re Real Mascara: This was another recommendation from my sister who–as you might have guessed–is a product junkie. Especially with mascara. I swear, on any given day you’ll find at least six different tubes in her makeup bag. This is her favorite and now I’m a devotee too. I’m the biggest skeptic EVER but I promise you, this works. Your lashes will look longer!

Tarte Eyelash CurlerIf there’s one thing I’m vain about it’s curling my lashes. I switched to this eyelash curler after years of a Shu Uemura and haven’t looked back!

Hopefully you’re as nosy as I am and enjoyed a peek into my makeup bag. I’m always so curious about other people’s beauty routines and would love to know what your essentials are. If you had to edit down to 5 what would they be?

PUMP UP THE VOLUME

I have ridiculously thick naturally wavy hair. The kind that without fail, provokes hairdressers to comment “you sure have a head of hair on you!” Thanks I hadn’t noticed. I’ve been trying to tame my hair for most of my life without much success. You should see pictures of me before discovering the power of a hair straightener… yikes!

One thing I still haven’t mastered is how to blow dry my own hair. Up until a few years ago I didn’t even own a blow dryer! I’d shower at night, let it air dry, and straighten in the morning. It works, but I’m tired of limp locks. I need a little volume in my life!

So tell me, what are your tricks to a great blow out? Favorite products of brushes that make it a bit easier? My hair would be eternally grateful to know your secrets.

SUMMER BEAUTY

I’ve never been much of a product junkie, I have my tried and true favorites that I’ve stuck with for years. In the summer especially, I edit down my makeup bag so my beauty routine is as effortless and effective as possible. Here are my current favorites:

1. Makeup Bag: Tory Burch striped cosmetic bag

2. Moisturize:  Cetaphil daily facial moisturizer is one of my staples. I’ve been using it for years! The newest addition to my makeup bag is Josie Maran Argan Oil. Seriously, a miracle worker, it makes my skin glow!

3. Conceal: Neutrogena SkinClearing Blemish Concealer is great for concealing the occasional spot.

4. Bronze: Too Faced Carribean in a Compact for that sunkissed glow.

5. Highlight: I dab a tiny bit of Benefit’s Girl Meets Pearl on my brow and cheek bones. Instantly makes me appear more awake.

6. Blush: I’ve officially converted to Nars Gaiety. Obsessed!

7. Mascara: I’ve tried just about every high-priced, designer mascara, but keep coming back to my drugstore favorite, L’Oreal Voluminous Waterproof.

8. Polish: Essie’s Mint Candy Apple is my current go-to. An oldie, but goodie.

What are your summer beauty essentials? I always love a good recommendation!

BLUSHING

Mata Hari

Gaiety

Desire

I’ve been a card carrying member of the Nars Orgasm cult for years but lately have been craving a change. With spring in full swing I find myself drawn to vibrant pink hues that will hopefully give me that youthful dewy glow. Hanna listed Gaiety as one of her staples on A Piece of Toast, and Mata Hari looked pretty fab on Jess, but Desire also looks like it has potential. Decisions, decisions. Looks like I’m going to be spending some quality time at Sephora after work today. What’s your go-to blush?
